Presented in 1965, the Fiat 500 F is the heir to the 500 D model. Among the most important changes, the one that stands out most of all, is certainly the fact that the doors are bolted to the front, as is the case today in modern cars. Although this is not the only change.
From February 1965 until November / December 1965 the Fiat 500 Fs had front hinged doors with 8 bolts per door, hence the term “eight bolts”, used today to identify this rarer Fiat 500 F model. There are no certain numbers, but it is estimated that Fiat, in the period from March to November 1965, produced about 200,000 cars.
From 1966 onwards, all Fiat 500s will have only 4 bolts per door. The doors are fitted with push-button handles with locks on both doors.
The sheet metal roof will no longer be bolted as in the 500 D model, but will be made, together with the uprights, in a single piece of sheet metal.
The aluminum profiles are no longer mounted on the sides and on the front hood. The taillights lose the aluminum base and increase in size. The headlights have chromium-plated metal rings instead of aluminum and adopt asymmetrical beam headlamps.
The three switches on the dashboard (lights, dashboard lighting, wiper) are lined up along the dashboard, while the indicator lights and lights are placed on the sides of the odometer.
The windshield becomes larger, improving visibility, while the canvas roof will adopt a frame with a single central hook for closure. The frame will also be beige until 1967, then it will turn black.
The rims are replaced and are fitted with steel cups and no longer in polished aluminum.
The front frieze, or whisker, becomes a single piece of plastic. On the rear bonnet, until October 1968, you can find the aluminum writing “new 500”. From October 1968, coinciding with the production of the 500 L model, the rear frieze becomes horizontal, with bars, in aluminum and with the inscription “Fiat 500”.
The odometer maintains the same shape as the fiat 500 D, but with full scale at 120Km / h
The glove box will no longer be made of metal, but of pressed cardboard and will increase in size. The interior rear-view mirror integrates the courtesy light that comes on when the driver’s door is opened. The door lock operates only when the door is closed.
There are two sunshades, a small removable ashtray placed in the center of the dashboard (with the tab up or down depending on the year of production), the heating and compass front windows with opening handle.
Internally, the glass lifting, door opening, and door pull handles (the one to pull the door towards you, so to speak) are made of aluminum.
The seats will have a white bezel until October 1968, then the bezel will remain, but it will be the same color as the seat.
The floor, as well as the central tunnel and the front wheel arches will be covered in striped rubber.
The engine will be 499.5 cc with the initials 110F.000, and the power will go from 17.5 Hp to 18 Hp at 4600 rpm. The air filter will become larger, and the coil will be mounted on the left.
The suspensions are strengthened and the drive shafts are larger in diameter. The braking system is also updated, and adopts larger cylinders.
The tank becomes cylindrical in shape and will have a capacity of 22 liters.
